Which interpretation preserves the indirect evaluation and avoids turning possibility into certainty?

  1. What can a category help you understand?

    Strengths; training; limits.

    Show an example

A category can suggest useful training, but it should not replace attention to the individual.

  2. When is undetermined a more accurate answer than no?

    Help me start

    Insufficient evidence.

    Show an example

When the evidence is not enough to establish a result, saying no would claim too much.

  3. Explain a skill without using a technical label.

    Help me start

    I can…; for example…

    Show an example

I can organise information clearly; for example, I can turn a long set of notes into a short plan.

Keep talking: 3 questions

Speak before opening the help or example. With a partner, ask a follow-up. On your own, say your answer aloud.

  1. How can a test protect something rather than merely exclude people?

    Help me start

    Relevant ability; a real risk.

    Show an example

A test can check whether someone can use a system without damaging it, but it should test the relevant skill.

  2. What should be explained before asking for a sacrifice?

    Help me start

    The cost; the choice; alternatives.

    Show an example

People should understand what they are giving up and whether another solution exists.

  3. Ask about both a benefit and a safeguard.

    Help me start

    This could help…; what prevents…?

    Show an example

This could help us work faster. What prevents an accidental change to the original files?

Mastery: use your English

Use the English in a new situation. Choose one answer for each question.

1. Explain a category with an example.

Put it all together: speaking

Use English from both clips. Start with the two short questions, then take a private role each. On your own, practise both roles.

  1. How do both scenes connect ability with responsibility?

    Help me start

    An assessment; a safeguard.

    Show an example

Knowing an ability is not the same as knowing how to use it responsibly; systems also need safeguards.

  2. What would you explain before letting someone use a new tool?

    Help me start

    Purpose; example; limit; check.

    Show an example

I would explain what it does, show an example, name one limitation and check understanding.

  3. Can you reach a workable outcome together using the two private role cards?

    Private Role A

You teach a new file-sharing tool. It saves time, but deleting a shared original affects everyone. You can provide a protected practice copy. Explain the tool without assuming familiarity with its labels.

    Private Role B

You are a beginner. You understand uploading but confuse a shared original with a personal copy. Ask for a concrete example and a safe place to practise before agreeing to use it.

Open only your own role card. Share its information by speaking, without showing the card.

    Help me start

Discover the missing information; explain your constraint; respond to your partner; agree on a practical next step. Use language from both clips.

    Check your conversation

    • Complete the practical goal on both role cards.
    • Use at least three target items naturally, including language from each clip.
    • Ask a relevant follow-up and respond to information you did not know.
    • End with a clear agreement, next step or summary.
    Show an example

A: This folder contains shared originals. B: Does that mean my changes affect everyone? A: Yes. Let us use a practice copy first. B: What prevents me deleting the wrong one? A: I will keep the originals read-only during practice.

Try again: The practice copy is unavailable. Negotiate an observation-only demonstration rather than remove every safeguard.
