Six pictures make one wide view
How did the team make the wide picture?
1NASA released a wide picture of Mars in an October report. The Curiosity rover took the photographs on 11 August 2026. They show morning light on distant rock shapes. These shapes are called yardangs, and wind helped carve them.
2The rover used its Mastcam camera. It took six separate pictures. After the pictures arrived on Earth, a team joined them into one wide view. This type of view is called a panorama. The finished picture lets us look across the landscape.
3The team did not use its usual colour adjustment. This choice kept the appearance of the early morning. The picture is a real rover observation, but its release date is different from the day the camera took it.
4Scientists want to understand how the layer of yardangs formed. They are not completely sure. One possible explanation involves volcanic ash, but that is a theory, not a confirmed answer. The image gives them a closer look at rock features they want to study.
