Recognise a two-part writing prompt

An IELTS-style two-part prompt contains two connected questions. A complete response needs a direct answer to both questions and one central idea that holds the essay together.

More professionals are choosing to work remotely. Why has this become common? What can employers do to help remote teams work effectively?

Question 1: explain the causes. Question 2: propose practical employer actions.

Build a balanced plan

  1. Introduction: paraphrase the topic and answer both questions briefly.
  2. Body paragraph 1: explain one or two important reasons.
  3. Body paragraph 2: develop realistic actions or responses.
  4. Conclusion: restate the relationship between the reasons and the response.

Guided planning practice

Prompt: Many young adults change jobs more frequently than previous generations. Why does this happen? Is this generally a positive or negative development?

Write one sentence answering the first question and one clear position sentence answering the second. Then choose one supporting example for each body paragraph.

Suggested plan

Cause: Young adults can compare opportunities more easily and often prioritise development over long-term security.

Position: This mobility is generally positive when it produces purposeful career growth rather than repeated short-term decisions.

Support: Paragraph 1 can explain access to information and changing expectations. Paragraph 2 can evaluate stronger skills and income against possible instability.

Your writing task

Create a four-paragraph plan for the remote-work prompt. Write a two-sentence introduction and one topic sentence for each body paragraph. Check that every sentence clearly answers one of the two questions.
