How to explain a career change
A strong answer presents your change as a deliberate progression. It connects your previous experience to the new role and shows what you have already done to prepare.
Build the answer in four parts

Model interview answer
Question: Why are you moving from operations into project management?
During six years in operations, I developed strong planning, problem-solving and stakeholder communication skills. I became increasingly interested in project management when I led a process improvement initiative across three teams. To prepare for the transition, I completed a project management course and began coordinating smaller internal projects. This role appeals to me because it would let me combine detailed operational knowledge with broader responsibility for planning and delivery.

- Focus on what you are moving toward.

- It shows that the change is relevant to this opportunity rather than a vague wish to leave the current field.
Speaking task
