How to Describe Your Strengths in an Interview

Replace unsupported adjectives with evidence that is relevant to the role.

Choose a relevant strength

A convincing strength is connected to the role and supported by evidence. Avoid listing adjectives without showing how the strength appears in your work.

Strength, Evidence, Relevance

  1. Name one genuine strength.
  2. Give a brief example that proves it.
  3. Connect it to the position.

Model answer

One of my main strengths is simplifying complex information. In my current role, I redesigned our onboarding guide after noticing that new colleagues asked the same questions repeatedly. The clearer guide reduced confusion and gave managers more time for coaching. I believe this would be valuable in a role that involves supporting international clients.

Useful language

  • One strength I would bring is…
  • A good example of this is…
  • This resulted in…
  • This would be relevant because…

Practice

Improve this statement: “I am organised.” Add evidence and relevance.

Possible answer

I am highly organised. For example, I created a shared deadline tracker that helped my team deliver three projects on schedule. That skill would help me coordinate the competing priorities in this position.

Production task

Prepare two strength answers. Use a different example for each and keep each answer under one minute.
